Terms of trade

Last updated 15 September 2026

These terms apply when you pay for a site survey deposit or a solar report from Solar Panels NZ (“we”, “us”). An installation is covered by a separate written fixed-price contract, which you see before you pay anything towards it. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.

Prices and GST

Prices are in New Zealand dollars. We are not yet registered for GST. Once we are, published prices will include GST and receipts will show our GST number. Market price ranges on this site are published figures from third parties, not our prices, and are labelled as such.

Site survey deposit ($250)

  • The deposit books a site survey by a registered electrician from our partner installer, and the design of a fixed-price contract for your home.
  • We email you within 2 working days of payment to arrange the survey.
  • If you sign the installation contract, the $250 is credited against the contract price.
  • If you decide not to sign, for any reason, we refund the $250 in full. Ask using our contact form and we refund it within 5 working days.
  • If we can't arrange a survey within 20 working days of payment, we refund you in full.

Solar report ($149)

  • A desktop assessment delivered as a PDF within 3 working days of receiving your power bill or usage data.
  • If we don't deliver it in that time, you can ask for a full refund.
  • The $149 is credited against an installation contract signed with us within 6 months of the report.
  • The report is based on aerial imagery and the information you give us. It is not a quote, and the site survey may find things it can't, such as roof condition or switchboard capacity.

Installation payment schedule

Your installation contract sets the fixed price and the schedule. Our standard schedule is:

  1. Site survey deposit of $250, credited to the price.
  2. A contract deposit when you sign, stated in the contract.
  3. The balance, due only after the system is commissioned and the electrical certificates for the installation have been given to you.

If the survey finds work outside the standard package, such as roof repairs or a switchboard upgrade, it is listed and priced in the contract before you sign.

Cancelling an installation contract

The cancellation terms, including any costs already incurred for materials ordered for your job, are set out in your contract. If the contract is signed away from our business premises, you may also have rights under the Fair Trading Act's uninvited direct sales rules.

Who does the work, and warranties

We contract with you and manage the job. The installation and electrical work are carried out by an independent partner installer we subcontract, using registered electricians. The installer's workmanship warranty is passed through to you and stated in your contract, and manufacturers' product warranties are registered in your name. Your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act apply to us as the supplier.

Estimates and information on this site

Online estimates, the payback calculator and our guides use published figures and stated assumptions. They are general information, not financial advice, and actual generation and savings will differ.

Referrals

If you tick the box asking us to, and we can't do your job, we may pass your enquiry to another installer and receive a referral fee. We tell you who before they contact you. Any contract you then make is with that installer, not with us.

Payments

Card payments are processed by Stripe. We don't see or store your card details. Refunds go back to the card you paid with; your bank may take 5 to 10 working days to show them.

Changes

We may update these terms. The version on this page when you pay applies to that payment.
