Privacy policy

This site is operated by Solar Panels NZ. This policy explains what personal information we collect and how we use it, in line with the Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

• What you tell us in the estimate, checkout, contact or installer forms: name, email, phone, address or suburb, region, roof details, power bill or usage, and messages.
• Power bills or usage data you send us for a solar report or survey.
• Payment details, collected and stored by Stripe. We receive your name, email, amount and payment status, never your card number.
• How you use the site (pages visited, device, approximate location), through PostHog analytics. Our forms also save progress as you type so we can follow up an unfinished enquiry.

How we use it

To give you an estimate, arrange a survey, prepare a report, price and deliver an installation, take payments and make refunds, reply to you, and improve the site. We don't sell your information.

Who we share it with

• Our partner installer for your region, when you book a survey or sign a contract, so they can do the work.
• Your lines company and electricity retailer, for the connection application and meter change.
• A referral installer, only if you tick the box asking us to refer you, and only after we tell you who.

Where it's stored

We use service providers that store data outside New Zealand, including Stripe (payments), Notion (enquiries and orders), PostHog (analytics), Vercel (hosting) and Resend (email). We rely on them to protect your information to a standard comparable to the Privacy Act.

How long we keep it

Payment and installation records are kept for 7 years for tax and warranty purposes. Enquiries that don't go ahead are deleted after 2 years.

Your rights

You can ask to see or correct the information we hold about you using our contact form. If you're not happy with how we handle it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
